Something Old, Something New – April edition

Well, my friends, it’s been a long time between posts.

I hope you’ll forgive me – moving house is a big job. We have been here for more than twenty-two years and have seen a lot of “mementoes” (aka junk or stuff) leave the building in the past few weeks!

Just thirteen days until moving day so there hasn’t been a lot of crafting going on – honestly, only what I could get done in class! And I’ve missed one of those in the past month too!

My “something old” project, the Country Houses quilt, has remained untouched. Alas, it will be carried over for another month. To be completely honest, I have lost my love for this quilt which was originally destined for our spare bed, then for our bed … but now, I think I’ll just get it done single (twin) size and put it aside as a spare quilt.

The picture shows the quilt as it was – on our queen sized bed and obviously too narrow and too long. I have removed two rows since then but it’s just not working for me…

on the bed - too big

My “something new” was to continue learning how to do foundation piecing! Do you know, it’s amazing how little gets done in a three hour class?

Here is what I’ve done in four weeks (excuse the photo quality, I had to take it at night, under fluorescent light, using my iPad. I completely forgot about this post – in fact, I have trouble remembering what day it is, let alone the date!)

Foundation piecing #1 done Foundation piecing #2 in progress

That’s one and half 8” blocks! Sad, isn’t it? (and I didn’t even take time to press the blocks before taking the photos!)

Since moving is getting in the way of my crafting activities, tiredness is sapping my ability to think, and unpacking boxes seems to be my destiny for some time to come, I will stick to these same two projects for my April goals.

What about you?
How did you go with your March goals?
What do you have planned for April?

  1. See I love the house quilt - you can always break it down into a wallhanging with a couple of matching pillows. You are working some hard blocks for a beginner paper piecer.

  2. Your paper pieced geese are beautiful! Best of luck moving - its' a very difficult thing to do both physically and emotionally.

  3. I really like the house quilt!!! A perfect quilt to remind you of your move. Don't give up just set it aside until you get in the new house.

  4. Hey, it's hard to move and craft at the same time! Don't worry, eventually it will be done and you will have a great new workspace. :)

  5. I know what trouble it is to move. Some of my problem is that part of my sewing room is in storage until our new house is built and I can't really remember which half :D I look for things and don't know if they are even there. Good on you for getting any sewing done.

  7. It's amazing you got anything done in the sewing room since you are preparing for a move. I taught myself to paper piece and though it's not my favorite way to stitch, it definitely has it's advantages.

  8. I'm not sure how you got anything done whilst organising a move. I'm still not sure if I enjoy paper piecing but they do come out nice and accurate.

  9. I don't envy you all the work of moving! I guess we will have to do it sometime though I'm not planning for it to happen anytime soon. I joined the paper piecing swap so that I could improve in that area. I still find it a frustrating method to do, although you can make intricate blocks quite precisely.

  10. I didn't get my post linked last month and with my hubby having surgery on his neck, I felt good about what I did get done. Moving takes so much, but you managed some sewing time. I'm adding a new project which will be ongoing. and working on another with my hexes. Hanging in there to get things done.
