away from home

This post was sent from the Blogger app on my iPad and the photos shown were taken at sunset using my iPad. I apologise for the change of font mid-post and the quality of the photos.

As our combined Christmas/wedding anniversary gifts to each other, WM and I are spending a couple of nights staying in an apartment and playing "tourist" in our own state capital city. We arrived about 5:30pm yesterday.

So far we have a romantic buffet dinner (at sunset) in a revolving restaurant at the top of Sydney's tallest building then wandered around Hyde Park listening to music as part of the Festival of Sydney which takes place at various venues around the city for two weeks in the middle of summer. This photo is a view of the tower (right of photo) taken at dusk on Friday night from our apartment balcony.
This morning we slept in then visited The Museum of Sydney. It opened in 1995 on the site of Sydney's first Government House but we've not seen it until now. We spent an interesting few hours looking at the history of our beautiful city.

We would have liked to have stayed but we needed to get back to our apartment and change for our next exciting adventure -- a 30 minute jet boat ride on Sydney Habour. The Harbour was choppy from a strong north-easterly wind, but the ride was a lot of fun. We got a little wet although we were wearing ponchos provided by the jet boat company.

After a leisurely stroll back to our apartment (through Darling Harbour and Harbourside shopping complex), we showered and went out for dinner.

Right now we are sitting on our tenth floor balcony, overlooking Darling Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and listening to a dj playing music (the pink glow in the bottom left of the photo below) on The Star's Sky Terrace which appears to be popular with the younger set!

Unfortunately, I cannot access the many photos WM and I have taken on his camera so I will be back early next week to share them with you.

Hope you have a great weekend too!

  6. Fabulous photo of the skyline. Is that art on the roof top? I love roof tops with art that can be seen from above:) Very creative

  7. This is a fun idea! We live in our capital city. And I lived here for years, before I finally went into the beautiful main sites that we encourage tourists to see. It often reminds us of the beauty or interesting or educational places that surround us but that we forget are worth a visit!
